About Stem Cell Research & Therapy

What is Stem Cell Research & Therapy?

Stem Cell Research & Therapy aims to be the major forum for translational research into stem cell therapies. An international peer-reviewed journal, it will publish open access research articles of outstanding quality. Stem Cell Research & Therapy will have a special emphasis on translational, laboratory, and clinical research into stem cells. It will include animal trials, pre-clinical and clinical trials. We will consider adult, embryonic, and induced pluripotent stem cell research, especially with a focus on cell-based transplantation, drug discovery and testing, cell-mediated tissue response and biological effects stimulated by endogenous cells. We will have a unique focus on drug discovery and testing, stem cell manufacture, engineering, and biomaterials.

Edited by Rocky Tuan and Timothy O’Brien, Stem Cell Research & Therapy is supported by an expert Editorial Board.

Content overview

Stem Cell Research & Therapy contains the following types of articles:

  • Research articles: reports of data from exceptional original research. These articles will form the major content of the journal.
  • Reviews: provide a factual account of recent developments within an area of research. Most are commissioned, though suggestions of topics are always welcome. In-depth reviews provide substantial coverage of a subject in a single longer article, and multi-author thematic series explore a subject in a series of concise, narrowly focused review articles coordinated by a leading authority in the field.
  • Commentaries: short, focused and opinionated articles of contemporary interest on any subject within the journal's scope. Most are commissioned, although unsolicited commentaries are welcome and are routinely peer reviewed.
  • Meeting Reports: short descriptions of a conference that an author has attended, which should focus on the key developments presented and discussed at the meeting. These articles are usually commissioned but reports and suggestions may also be submitted for the editors' consideration.
  • Viewpoints: short opinion pieces focusing on the latest high-impact research.

Peer review policies

All articles will be subject to immediate screening by the Editorial Board. Articles that do not meet the scientific standards of the journal may be declined without further review. Appropriate articles will be sent to up to 4 referees. We make every effort to reach decisions within 6 weeks of submission. If the referees have requested revisions, in general, only one revised version will be considered for further peer-review.

Authors are asked to provide names and contact details for 3 referees. However, final selection of referees is the responsibility of the Editorial Board.

All peer review is closed - authors are not given the names of the referees of their article.

Editorial Board members and referees are asked to declare any competing interests they may have in reviewing a manuscript.

On occasion, authors of rejected articles will be offered the opportunity to submit their research article to one of the other journals published by BioMed Central. Where relevant, the referee reports will be passed on to the second journal, which may expedite the peer review process. Referee reports are not passed on to any journal outside of BioMed Central.

If an author is not satisfied with the decision made on their manuscript, they are welcome to contact the Editorial Office with their appeal. A second opinion on the manuscript will be sought where appropriate.

refers to research article 306 from volume 6 of the journal.

With the exception of primary research articles, where the copyright rests with the authors as a default, copyright of material published in Stem Cell Research & Therapy belongs to the publisher, BioMed Central Ltd.
